A worked example: four people, three nights
Four friends plan a three-night trip, which is four days. Some costs are for the whole trip, some are per night, and some are per person.
| Cost | Counted | Amount | For the group |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lodging | × 3 nights | $220.00 | $660.00 |
| Gas | for the trip | $120.00 | $120.00 |
| Food | × 4 people × 4 days | $45.00 | $720.00 |
| Activities | × 4 people | $60.00 | $240.00 |
| Total | $1,740.00 |
Split four ways, the trip costs $435.00 per person, or about $108.75 per person a day.
Once you're on the trip, log who actually paid for what in the trip splitter, and it works out who owes whom at the end.

Questions
How do you calculate the cost of a trip per person?
Add every cost for the whole group: lodging times the nights, food times people and days, plus gas and anything else. Divide the total by the number of people.
How many days is a trip with three nights?
Usually four: you pay for food on the day you arrive and the day you leave. The calculator counts nights plus one for costs per person a day.
What if not everyone does every activity?
Budget it as a whole-trip cost for only the people doing it, or leave it out here and log it in the trip splitter once you're there.
Can I plan in another currency?
The calculator shows dollars, but the math is the same for any currency: type amounts in yours.
Is my plan saved?
No. It stays on this page in your browser. Copy the summary to keep it.
